day 78

after a nice relaxing and chill day yesterday, we had a full day. we got up and set off to go check out the basilica of saints peter and paul which was a beautiful church on the inside but the outside was under construction so it was covered in scaffolding. we then had to pose with rocky at the base of the art museum. ADRIAN! we then spent a couple of good hours roaming around the art museum checking out monet's, pollacks, manet, van goghes, lots of asian sculptures, medieval swords and armor, the evolution of guns, and then the renoir collection that is there for the summer. it was wonderful seeing paintings and sculptures that you've heard about or read in textbooks/classes. i put on some gustav holst as well as the amalie soundtrack as i soaked up the wonderfulness called art. they had some amazing rooms that were filled with japanese tea huts, an old roman columned fountain, and old chinese pillars. it wasn't recreated but dismantled and reconstructed in the rooms to make it feel like you were actually walking through these constructs. i was blown away at how well they transported you to a new region and time. we then headed down to south street to visit the philadelphia magic gardens which is a huge complex that was created by a local artist who makes mosaics and the entire building, from top to bottom, were mosaics. it was a totally different type of art but it was way impressive; the garden outside was like a maze of magnificence. we then went down to the kiln area and chatted with the artist for a bit. the day just kept getting better cause we then headed up to circle of hope to get ready for the psalter's show. we enjoyed some amazing pancakes from sabrina's restaurant and the names at the restaurant were super long and elaborate like the triceratop mountain of fruit goodness pancakes (that wasn't the name but an example, everything had a dinosaur reference though). we arrived at circle of hope and enjoyed the music from sun and moon (i think thats the name) and timbre but the headliner, the psalters, were pretty great. they played a lot of new music and only one song i knew so it was more of the experience of being a part of their intense shows. i always enjoy seeing people who are super in to the show and it makes me smile to see them way happy and satisfied right then and there. the show was a great end to a busy past couple of days. thanks philly for the great sights and sounds.
