day 58

today we took a rest day here in berea and we had a map of all the cool stuff to hit up but that is not how the day went. (cue the music!) dun dun dun! So remember evan broke a spoke the day before so we first headed down to the appalachian bike shop which recently opened in the past handful of months by some young guys (kudos for starting a business) but they lacked skill and tools to adequately true evan's tire. The bike mechanic said he could do it but would need to consult his repair book so after some figuring out, to make a long story shorter, evan caught a ride up to richmond where there was a more adequate bike shop. While evan was gone, I updated the blog, hit up a cool used book store, rode around old town, cruised the internet at berea coffee and tea which is a cool place in the heart of town, chatted with francis' friend for a bit, and then evan met back up with me with a fixed tire and a new front tire to replace his old tire that seemed to be getting punctured from every angle. The bus situation that evan had to use to get to richmond and back was much more of a fiasco than I am making it out to be; the bus system there runs on 24 hr in advance appointments and this was like an hour before the bus headed up to richmond and you also needed a 24hr appointment to get back so all this getting him up there and getting his bike fixed then heading back down worked out really well. We were supposed to hit up a sweet pie party (excuse the pun), but we got caught up calling friends and family as well as trying to talk with amtrak about getting our return train tickets. We were both starving so we were going to hit up an italian place down the street so we hop on our bikes and it was literally around the corner, we had a good laugh as we took off our helmets and gloves then relocked our bikes up. People warned us to not eat the breadsticks so we ordered some pasta and sweet tea (I love sweet tea) and it came with a breadstick. We ate all of it, including the breadstick, risking it all especially since francis' toilet doesn't work well with #2...have to run over to the university bathroom which is not exactly a hop skip and a jump away because both evan and I regretted eating those breadsticks later. Enough said. It was a rough night, hot and with the combo of my stomach not feeling the best, sleep was hard to come by but eventually the counting sheep eased me into slumber. End of day.
