day 59

Today we ventured from berea, saying goodbye to francis and her wonderful hospitality, and went to booneville. We spent most of the morning, evan, mailing stuff off, and myself, looking for an airhorn to scare away the dogs we were going to be encountering for the remainder of kentucky but airhorns are hard to come by I found out but eventually got a huge one at a auto parts store. East of berea is also the start of the appalachians so the hills or mountains as they call them down here were starting to make riding a little more difficult but was a great change of scenery seeing this steep forested mounds in the distance. It was just a hot and sweaty day where we literally felt like a faucet was on in our bodies where sweat was literally pouring off my arms and legs. I've never experienced this before and I don't like it. We finally rolled into booneville where we hit up a dollar general and got huge gatorades and snacks then went in search of booneville presbyterian church where they let cyclists camp out in their backyard. Out back was a shaded picnic table with a shower and faucet and a port-o-potty and a nice grassy area to throw up our tents. Blah, couldn't resist. We were super excited to get into town earlier than usual so we went up to the library but as we walked in, they were shutting everything down so we made our way back down to the church. We were just reading/listening to music/journaling when another cyclist came up, jon, so we hungout and swapped stories. Really nice guy, looked like an older or future version of tom. He was riding a sweet all black surly with a bob trailer, he builds satellites for nasa and telecommunication companies, pretty rad. As we were chatting, vbs was finishing its last day at the church and they invited us to their bbq so we gorged on hot dogs, chips, cookies, cupcakes, fruits, chocolate milk, lemonade, fruit by the foot, and iced fruit things. We watched kids play on this huge inflatable bouncy thing with a slide, looked intense. There was a kid running around with the sickest mullet but I didn't have my camera sadly...i chatted with an elderly lady for a long time about the church and the town, as I was leaving to head back to the cyclers area, they filled my arms with extra chips, cupcakes, oranges, and chocolate milks for later tonight. So we just ate like kings a bunch of junk food as we just chatted all night.
